'Passion's Royal Courage & Beauty'
©1999 Carol J. Phipps

This original collage (11 x 15") shows a vase of large irises of several varieties; the piece focuses on the colors purple, blue, and red and their association with both the experience of suffering, and time shared in the company of beautiful friends. The Greek goddess of the rainbow, IRIS, is storied to have been the messenger of the gods in Homer's Iliad. She is a symbol of beauty and promise in the midst of storms. The biblical book of Genesis (9:8-17) tells of God's promise and covenant which are symbolized with the rainbow in the clouds.

Created with colors torn and cut from magazine paper; highlighted with eyebrow pencil.
